A practical, rights-based approach built around the person.
PBS brings together the person’s goals and preferences, information from the people who know them well, observation and assessment, and evidence-informed practice. The result is a plan that can be used in everyday life.
Understand the reason behind behaviour
A Functional Behaviour Assessment explores patterns, communication, health, relationships, environments and unmet needs that may influence behaviour.
Build skills and independence
Support may focus on communication, choice-making, emotional regulation, daily living and other skills that are meaningful to the person.
Create more supportive environments
We identify practical changes to routines, expectations, communication and surroundings that can reduce stress and help the person succeed.
Reduce restrictive practices
Where restrictive practices are present, the focus is on safety, rights, lawful oversight and reducing and eliminating their use wherever possible.
Start with a conversation—not a commitment.
PBS may help when behaviour is affecting safety, relationships, participation, independence or quality of life. You do not need to know exactly what service to request before contacting us.
Behaviour feels difficult to understand or respond to
Existing strategies are not working consistently
A behaviour support plan or assessment is needed
Family or support staff need practical training
Restrictive practices need review and reduction
You want a more coordinated, person-centred approach
A clear pathway from first conversation to ongoing support.
The exact pathway depends on the person’s needs, situation and NDIS funding. We explain each step in plain language.
We listen
We learn what matters to the person, what is working, what is difficult and who should be involved.
We assess
We gather information and observe patterns to understand the function and context of behaviour.
We build the plan
We co-design practical, proactive strategies that reflect the person’s goals, rights and everyday life.
We support and review
We train the support team, monitor outcomes and adjust strategies as needs and circumstances change.
Positive Behaviour Support services
Support is tailored to the participant and may include one or more of the following services.
Functional Behaviour Assessment
Understand patterns, contributing factors and the purpose behaviour may serve.
Interim Behaviour Support Plans
Provide timely strategies where immediate risks or support needs require a response.
Comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans
Translate assessment findings into individualised, proactive and practical strategies.
Training & implementation
Help families, carers and providers use strategies consistently and confidently.
Monitoring & plan review
Track meaningful outcomes, gather feedback and refine support over time.
Restrictive practice support
Support lawful reporting, oversight and plans to reduce and eliminate restrictive practices.
Services and timeframes are based on clinical need, participant choice, funding and applicable NDIS requirements.
Clinical expertise, made practical.
Good behaviour support depends on trust, collaboration and strategies people can genuinely use. Our practitioners work with the wider support network so the plan can live beyond the page.
More time with people
Our approach prioritises direct observation, relationship-building and hands-on implementation—not documents alone.
Clear, usable plans
Strategies are written in plain language and shaped around the routines, environments and people involved.
Family and team collaboration
The participant’s voice leads the work, with family, carers and other providers involved as appropriate.
Connected allied health expertise
Our PBS practitioners can collaborate with psychology, occupational therapy, speech pathology and other Bloom disciplines.
Answers before you begin.
If your situation is different, that is okay. Our team can help you work out whether Bloom is the right fit.
Who can access NDIS-funded Positive Behaviour Support?
PBS is generally funded through the Capacity Building category in an NDIS plan. Funding labels and plan structures can change, so our team can help you check the relevant support category and next steps.
What is a Behaviour Support Plan?
It is a collaborative plan describing person-centred, proactive and evidence-informed strategies to improve quality of life and reduce the likelihood and impact of behaviours of concern. It is developed with the participant and the people important to their support.
What is a Functional Behaviour Assessment?
It is a structured process for understanding what happens before, during and after behaviour, the contexts in which it occurs, what the person may be communicating and the purpose the behaviour may serve.
Do you work with families, schools and support providers?
Yes. With the participant’s consent, collaboration can include family, carers, support coordinators, schools, day programs, SIL providers and other allied health professionals.
Can support be delivered by telehealth?
Depending on clinical suitability and participant preference, support may be delivered in the community, at home, by telehealth or through a combination of approaches.
How long does the process take?
Timing varies according to urgency, complexity, participant availability, assessment needs and funding. Contact us to discuss current availability and the most appropriate first step.
